14 Year 8 students embarked a journey to Westminster to celebrate World Afro Day at Church House. World Afro day was the first global celebration of Afro hair and aimed to highlight the dangers of using chemical relaxants but also celebrate the beauty of natural afro hair. The event was endorsed by the United Nations. It was live-streamed globally and the students were all very excited to participate in this memorable day.
World Afro Day was jam-packed with activities, the girls were fully engaged with all the guest speakers, performers and celebrities; which included Miss USA 2016 Deshauna Barber and Celebrity Stylist Vernon Francois.
Eltham Hill was also a part of setting a World Record for the largest Hair Education Session and appeared on ITV News and other regional TV news outlets.
The girls were a credit to the school, enjoyed the experience immensely and gained handy tips on natural hair care, career choices, self-confidence and belief.
