To close the first term of the 2017/18 academic year staff and parents were treated to amazing performances from our students at the Winter concert. The Year 11 Steel Pan group kicked things off with ‘El Cumbanchero’, followed by performances from the Year 10 Steel Pan and the Choir. The Year 7 and Year 9 Steel Pan group provided some Christmas classics, performing ‘Good King Wenceslas’ and ‘Santa Baby’ before the first scene of ‘Grandpa’s House’. Written by the English Department’s own Mr Luke, ‘Grandpa’s House’ followed Little Red Riding Hood, who obviously outgrew the little moniker, as she searched for her Grandpa’s house to give him his requested One Direction Doll. Along the way, she encountered classic fairy-tale heroes and villains, the 3 Bears, Snow White and her gang of dwarves, Hansel, Gretel, the Witch and finally the Big Bad Wolf. With some fantastic performances and puns, the students put pressure on the staff who will be performing their own panto on the 18th December.
Intercut between the scenes of ‘Grandpa’s House’ were further performances from our Steel Pan bands and Ukele groups, a performance of ‘Die Moldau’ from our flute trio and a beautiful solo performance from Beliz Mahmut, accompanied by Alliance Nsenga on the piano, of ‘Read All About It’.
Well done to all those who performed and many thanks to Ms Sewell, Ms Neale and Mr Luke for putting together another successful Winter Concert!
