A mix of students from Post 16 and Year 10 took part in an interactive career session from award-winning architect Sahra Hersi and Carey Robinson from the Institute of Contemporary Arts.
Sahri explained about her route into Architecture and her progress from a state comprehensive to London Metropolitan University, the Royal Academy of Arts and the world of work. She then shared and discussed some of her projects with the group. Students took part in a concept task and had about 25 minutes to produce their ideas, in collage form, of “My Happy Space”. The results and ideas were very varied and very impressive.
The last part of the session involved a discussion about the various related career paths that Architecture can lead to, from fashion design, product design, publishing, interior design and so on.
Students comments about the afternoon included:
“It increased my aspirations.”
“It has raised my awareness of opportunities available to me.”
“It made me think and explore something I’ve not done before.”
