The Music Department has recently set up a team of Music Leaders with students from year 7 to year 13. Music Leaders are students who have applied for the role and have been carefully chosen as outstanding musicians.
Music Leaders are given the opportunity to express their ideas and thoughts on how they feel the music department could be improved for all students. The first idea proposed by the Music Leaders was to fundraise for a new steel pan and other instruments for the department. This was achieved in the first term of the academic year by the leaders running a number of highly successful events. Firstly, a Winter Bake Sale held on Monday and Tuesday of the last week of the school term. Adding to this, Year 12 & 13 Senior Music Leaders, Emily Butler and Elysia Clay, conducted a raffle at the Winter Concert. Finally, during the last week of term, teachers performed a sell-out Staff Pantomime. Year 12 & 13 Music Leaders were assigned as Stage Managers and took a leading role in the backstage organisation. Overall, from all our fundraising events, we have raised over £300 for the Music Department.
The music leaders are planning to pursue more fundraising ideas and continue their excellent work throughout the rest of this year. Well done to all of Eltham Hill’s Music Leaders!
