On 8th February, 11 students from Year 12 attended masterclasses at Robinson College, Cambridge. The day gave them the opportunity to understand more about Oxford and Cambridge, a chance to tour the University and most importantly, a chance to sample subjects offered at University level.
The group sampled masterclasses in English, History, Natural Sciences and Medicine.
The students found the day very informative and some are inspired to apply next year!
I took part in the English masterclass lecture at Robinson College, University of Cambridge and got a real flavour of what life at Oxbridge Universities are really like. We looked at the relevance of Italy on many of Shakespeare’s works, close readings of some medieval Italian texts, and the ‘meaning’ of their translation into English – after analysing the works of Ezra Pound. Aside from the amazing opportunity we all had to visit such a renowned university, it has inspired me to look into different areas of literature and explore different texts relevant to my courses, in preparation for life outside of sixth-form.
