On Monday 12th February, 29 students and 6 staff departed EHS at 6.30am heading for New York! We arrived at JFK airport at 2.30pm and made our way to the hostel we were staying at on E47th Street. Over the course of the week, we participated in many different visits including, the U.N Headquarters, a cruise around New York, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial Museum, a walk over Brooklyn Bridge, a walking tour taking in Grand Central Station and Central Park, The American Museum of Natural History, and an evening on Broadway to see Aladdin. We climbed to the top of the Empire State Building and the Rockefeller Centre and ate at some of the city’s most famous eateries, including Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Restaurant and Ellen’s Stardust Diner. The week culminated with free time for shopping, and lots of money was spent in Bloomingdale’s and Sephora!
Throughout the week the weather varied from freezing at the start to mild at the end, but the crisp bright mornings were a nice backdrop away from the gloomy British weather. We returned to Eltham Hill on Saturday 17th, with many life-long memories!
