Book Review: I Have No Secrets by Penny Joelson

I Have No Secrets is about Jemma, a girl that cannot speak or move. She cannot do anything; the only things that she can do are breathe, sniff and hear. There are lots of people that take care of her, like Sarah who works for Jemma and is Jemma’s favourite person. Sarah is not just a worker; she is part of the family because she lives in Jemma’s house. Sarah’s boyfriend, Dan, is a bad guy but only Jemma knows this. Dan told Jemma, “They will never catch me.” Sarah does not love him. Dan is being very bad to Jemma and talks like she is not there; she hates this.

My favourite character was Jemma because she is very clever and she never stops hoping about things and her life. My favourite part of the book is when Jemma’s family finds a way for her to communicate because it’s very interesting, weird and beautiful talking by sniffing and she’d been waiting all her life for that moment. There was also a mysterious part in Chapter 22 when Sarah doesn’t go home and goes missing.

I would recommend the book to younger readers who are fans of mystery and drama.
