On Saturday 8th of July, all of the work completed as part of the #studentbeings project was exhibited at the Lewisham Arthouse. SHINE students came down to the launch of the exhibition throughout the day with Mrs Osborne. They also got a copy of their work on a limited edition postcard and most of them were wearing their limited edition t-shirts. The artist, Jeremy Gluck, came all the way from Swansea to meet our girls and sign pictures for them. Qi had a great meeting with him and he now wants to do a project with her and the other students involving spoken word/audio clips.
In the evening, there was music and entertainment provided by a range of avant-garde musicians. It was exciting to have so many people willing to give up their time to help to launch our students’ work. The launch continued into Sunday when lots of visitors came to see the work. They were very impressed by the quality of the prints.
Many thanks to the artists at SHINE, who are always fantastic. Also, thank-you to Jeremy Gluck for his commitment and enthusiasm (as always). A big high-five to Claire Gill who helped to mount all of the work and all of the musicians who offered their time for free: Mark Browne, Richard Sanderson, Richard Jackson, Andrew Page, Anthony Osborne, Rik Jensen and Harmergeddon. A big thumbs up to May, who helped all evening on the reception desk and is joining us in September as Year 7 student! Finally, thank-you to Lily Osborne for helping at the desk and taking photos. Both of these projects are examples of how Eltham Hill believes that every student should aspire to the greatest possible achievements. Working with professionals is so great – it is all testimony to their inspirational talents! Thank-you to all of my wonderful SHINE students.
