Bone Talk by Candy Gourlay

Bone Talk is about a boy names Samkad, who thinks he knows everything about the world. He really wants to become a man. His best friend, Luki, wants the same thing; however, she is a girl.
I really liked how the book was set in the 19th century and in the Philippines which is really rare based on books I’ve read before. I also liked how the character Luki was very determined about what she wanted to do. However, I disliked how it focused on a theme I don’t personally find interesting although I would read something similar again.
Overall, I thought this book was good and would recommend it to younger readers who like historical fiction.
