Community and Partnerships

We are proud to have ‘community’ at the heart of our school. We celebrate the difference women have made locally, nationally and internationally. Annual events such as Make a Difference Day, Black History Month and our Inter Generational Projects put equality and diversity at the centre of our school. Our students have sponsored many charities during these events through ingenious fundraising activities.

Our students support and regularly fundraise for the charity, Commonwealth Girls Education Fund“.  The CGEF helps girls to complete their secondary or high school education in their own Commonwealth country in cases where, for economic reasons, this might not otherwise be possible. The annual Year 7 Sleepover organised by the Head Girl’s Team helps raise money for the CGEF. During the 2015-16 academic year our students and staff helped raise £1,754 for the charity.

As part of our community links, we work closely with our local primary schools and with other schools locally and nationally, particularly through the Association of Maintained Girls Schools. We are also part of the Science Learning Partnership. The National Science Learning Partnership aims to support teachers and technicians in:

  • enhancing their professional skills
  • inspiring pupils by providing them with a more exciting, intellectually stimulating and relevant science education.

International Partnerships

Our International Programme partners with schools from around the world to provide visiting pupils with the opportunity to attend an English school whilst visiting the UK.  Visiting pupils are given an Eltham Hill School ‘buddy’ – a pupil from a year group of similar age – who they will shadow and attend academic lessons with.

 Since September 2016, we’ve had visitors from Thailand, Belgium, China and Netherlands.

CPD Mark

Developed in 2008, the Continuing Professional Development Mark is an independent Assessment scheme designed exclusively for the education sector in the UK to ensure that schools and colleges have effective systems in place to identify and fulfil the development needs of all staff. This, in turn, leads to a focus on:

  • management
  • curriculum
  • assessment
  • teaching and learning
  • standards of achievement
  • support and guidance
  • partnerships
  • pupils’ personal development and well-being

International School Award

The International School Award is a badge of honour for schools that do outstanding work in international education, such as through links with partner schools overseas. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need to live and work as global citizens.

An International focus is at the heart of the curriculum at Eltham Hill School. Not only are we recognised as an International Baccalaureate World School but in years 7 and 8 all students also engage in a International Creative Curriculum. In addition students in Years 9 to 11 complete an iGCSE in Global Perspectives. Our commitment to international learning is fundamental to our ethos.

As part of ensuring Excellence, Happiness and Success for all our students and staff we are proud to work with the nationally acclaimed charity Stonewall. All schools have a legal and moral obligation to challenge all forms of prejudice, including homophobia and to promote inclusivity in the curriculum and in the wider school community.

Stonewall’s research has identified that homophobic, biphobic and transphobic (HBT) language and bullying are widespread in many UK secondary schools, affecting young people’s well-being as well as their attendance and attainment. Bullying can have a severe impact on the well-being, attainment and aspirations of all students and especially those who identify as, or who are perceived to be, LGBT. Those schools that take an active, positive approach to tackling all forms of prejudice and discrimination achieve the best results for all their learners.

Artsmark gives every child the opportunity to create, compose, and perform, gain knowledge and understanding, and to visit experience and participate in extraordinary work.

Governor Mark

Governor Mark

Governor Mark is a national award. It is a kite mark which provides external evaluation of the quality of governance in a school.

This is a challenging award. Not only does a governing body need to show that it follows good procedures and fulfils statutory duties, but there is a high value placed on evidence of impact – the difference the governing body makes to a school.

FairAchiever School

Our school is committed to supporting, using and promoting Fairtrade, wherever possible. We believe that Fairtrade can make a difference to the lives of young people throughout the world by improving living and working conditions for the people who grow the things we buy.

TfL STARS Bronze Kite Mark for School Travel Plan

Our STARS award recognises our work in inspiring our students to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling.

NACE Challenge Award

Eltham Hill has been awarded the NACE Challenge Award. The NACE Challenge Award is a nationally recognised quality mark presented to schools that have developed excellent provision for more able learners. The assessor was, ‘very impressed by the school’s ambition to provide challenge through rigorous monitoring, planning and getting pupils to think and be independent in their learning.’
