Library

The library supports reading for pleasure with a variety of fiction and non-fiction books and supports the school’s curriculum with a collection of non-fiction books and magazines.

The library is open throughout the school day and offers a learning space where students can read, study and use a number of computer stations.

Each Year 7 and Year 8 class has a fortnightly library session with their English teacher and the librarian. Here is a useful resource where you find reading lists for KS3 and KS4. The English department has also created a KS5 Reading List, aimed at developing students’ reading through diverse and often challenging authors.

Explore our extensive list of faculty recommended books, tailored for each Key Stage group. Click here to browse the selections.

To support the school’s enrichment activities, the library holds book clubs for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and sixth form groups. It also organises shadowing of the Carnegie Book Award shortlist every year with Year 8 and Year 9 groups. In conjunction with the English department, the library runs a variety of World Book Day events.

Many students take the chance to be involved in the running of the library as student librarians. They work towards their student librarian award and have the opportunity to earn additional badges and become senior librarians.

The library catalogue is available online for students via a dedicated website. Students can borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks online here using single sign on via their school email account by following these instructions.
