Health and Social Care: BTEC
Syllabus: Edexcel
The subject of Health and Social Care explores how vulnerable individuals within our community could be supported and cared for within the limits of the legislation, social care provision, and physiological health.
The Health and Social Care department at Eltham Hill School utilises a vocational approach to teaching and learning. Students are expected to apply their knowledge and understanding to a range of scenarios and situations within the Health and Social Care sector. Students are able to build awareness and understanding of contemporary issues within the sector, as well as practice essential skills required for future careers or further education.
As the majority of work completed for the qualification is assessed as coursework, the students have an opportunity to improve their professional writing skills, as well as their ability to organise their time and work to complete all components. Students are encouraged to reflect regularly; not only on how they could improve their work, but to use empathy to examine how they would act as a practitioner in a given scenario.
Upon completing qualifications in Health and Social Care, our students are prepared to study for careers in:
- Childcare
- Nursing
- Social Work
- Teaching
- Mental Health
- Counselling
- Police Services
