Science
Syllabus: AQA
Science has changed our lives and it is vital that students leave our school with essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Science also combines a variety of core skills and takes up a significant proportion of the curriculum at KS3 and KS4 at Eltham Hill School.
Through the study of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, students are encouraged to:
- recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena;
- understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.
‘Working scientifically’ forms a large part of the curriculum at all Key Stages, focusing on using a variety of approaches to answer relevant scientific questions. These types of scientific enquiry include: observing over time, pattern seeking, identifying, classifying and grouping, comparative and fair testing (controlled investigations); and researching using secondary sources. Students seek answers to questions through collecting, analysing and presenting data, and develop analysing and evaluating skills.
