Alumni Author Bernadine Evaristo Holds Q&A at Eltham Hill
Alumni Bernardine Evaristo (1970-1977) visited Eltham Hill on 21st October for an author event for all students in Years 10 - 13. During the inspirational Q&A moderated by YouTuber and activist Vee Kativhu, Bernardine spoke about ‘unstoppablility’ and resilience and discussed her incredible life and career and her recently published memoir Manifesto which draws on her experiences and offers insights into social issues such as race, class, feminism, sexuality and ageing.
The event was filmed as part of Penguin Talks and every student who attended received free copies of Manifesto and Bernardine’s Booker Prize winning book Girl, Woman, Other, which made her the first Black woman ever to win the prize. The students were engaged and attentive throughout and asked thoughtful, considered questions at the end.
“I think it really inspires us to feel we can do anything. Seeing that in person makes it really real,” one student excitedly told Penguin.
